Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) or directional drilling (DD) is an operated trenchless technology of pipelines construction under different natural and artificial obstacles (rivers, dams, railway lines, highways and so on). The horizontal drilling method is ecological so that by its use loading on the environment is minimal.

Comparing horizontal drilling method with traditional trench technology of the underground pipelines construction the horizontal drilling has an amount of other significant advantages, namely: less temporal, financial and labor costs, as well as possibility of the pipeline construction in places where trench method is not applicable.

By the modern high normative technical requirements to the quality, terms and efficiency of works by the construction, operation and repair of all types of the underground communications just trenchless technologies can provide safety, reliability and durability.

Horizontal directional drilling (HDD) or as it is also named directional drilling (DD) at the moment is an irreplaceable method by the underwater crossings and underground crossings construction.

Trenchless construction is a serious economic reserve for the oil and gas branch and communication branch.

Traditional trench method of pipelines and cable networks laying is characterized not simply by great amount of earthmovings, man power and long terms of construction, but first of all, by hardest influence on the environment in field conditions and creation of serious inconvenience for people in an urban setting.
